Original-Owner 1961 Studebaker Hawk, John and Val Alexander

We had the Hawk towed to a shop that was recommended to us and told them to go over it completely and take care of anything it needed to be driven safely and trouble-free; however, I told them not to replace exhaust parts because I planned to take it to a different shop for that work. After they worked on it, it appeared to run and drive okay, and I drove it around Oak Ridge for a few miles. It was too noisy to drive much because of the bad exhaust system, which I hadn't yet had replaced. Our indoor garage is under our house and is reached by driving up a hill to the driveway and, then, up the driveway hill into the basement. That's where I parked the Studebaker, and one day, when getting ready for a drive, I noticed a large pool of fluid around a rear wheel. A supposedly new wheel cylinder had leaked, and I knew that I would have to check out the entire brake system before I would trust it on our driveway. I delayed and delayed and delayed until weeks became months and months became years. The Hawk was never started again for over 25 years.

This photo shows the area of our driveway that is most-nearly level!
