William Henry Alexander

  General Notes:

William is probably related to John Priestly, and Aditha is related to Emily Jane. William and Aditha apparently migrated from Henry County after their marriage. In 1850, p. 265B, 458/458, a William Alexander (31 Farmer No Estate) and wife Abitha (32) are on the census list for CD 4 of Fayette County. Listed with them and their children (James M. 2, and Olive G. 1) are James C. Alexander (65, b. ~1785 KY, Farmer NE) and (his children?) John (23, b. ~1827, idiotic), James R. (20), and Nancy J. (14).

  Research Notes:

Henry County records show that, in 1847, James C. Alexander and William had debts. People they owed included Hugh M., John P., Isaac D. Gore, and at least one of the Mathises (who have several marriages with the Alexanders). They made deeds of trust for most of their property to come due at the end of 1848. William Alexander sold land in Henry County to James C. McNeil (Deed book I., p. 150) and to Hugh M. Alexander (Deed book I, p. 151) some time in the period from 1846-1848. James C., William, and Aditha (listed as Abitha), all of appropriate ages, then appear on the 1850 census for Fayette. They left Henry County in 1848-1850.

1850Fp265b: CD 3 William, 31 KY, Aditha (written Abitha), 32 TN, James M. 2, Olive G, 1, James C., 65 KY, John/Jobie 23 TN, Nancy J, 14, James R. 20 Brother doesn't look like John in John Arnold just above. Looks more like b than h but more like n than e.

1860Fp425, 254/254 CD-2: Wm 41 ($1200, $850 Farmer), Disy 42, Jas M 12 (mislisted as fem.), J. 10 fem., Jeff 8, D. fem. 6, Buck 4, John 30 idiotic, Martin 26. all TN NOTE: I don't know who Martin is. Could he be Martin Jones instead of Martin Alexander? Probably not; Martin Jones and Martin McClure are probably the same (son of Susan McClure). Brother is definitely listed as John here.

1870Fp218, 111/112 CD-2: Wm 52 ($4000, $800 Farmer), Aditha 53, James 23, Jefferson 18, Dora 14, Wm 12, Job (same as brother John from 1860) 40 idiotic; all born TN. Young William is William B. (Buchanan?)
